WrAHM: Kick in the butt style

There's not enough time. Make time.
I don't want to write. Do it anyway.
Everything I write is crap. Crap can be fixed.
I should be with my kids. They'll live.
I'll never be done. Not with that attitude.
I have other things to do. Put writing at the top of your list.
It's selfish for me to write. Don't be a martyr.
I'll do it later. No, you won't.

What's your excuse? I'll tell you why it's just that - an excuse - in the comments today.

  4. Josin - Think how sad your obit will be if it reads "played a lot of Bejeweled Blitz, meant to write."

Melissa - Clean it - AFTER you write.

    Nadine - me too!

  5. Wha psh! *whip sound*

I'm not a mom, so I'm not a WrAHM, but this is great. We all need a kick in the @$$ sometimes. :)

  6. Thank you, Ma'am, may I have another! :)
This was *exactly* what I needed, because these are exactly the excuses I've been giving myself. Awesome.

  8. Most of my excuses you've already slaughtered, but here's one that plagues me: I have to learn how to write (i.e. reading about the craft of writing) before I can write.

  9. Emy - you won't learn to write if you don't write! Also crap can be fixed.

Jess - Don't make me unfriend you.

  10. I need to mow the yard!

And uh, yeah, it kinda is just a really bad excuse. Cause it's not like the yard won't be there for me to mow tomorrow.

  11. My house *is* a wreck, and I should be cooking more, but I don't really care anymore. I realized a long time ago that if the housework and cooking sucks me dry, and the writing feeds my soul, then the kids will appreciate a happy mama more than from-scratch meals and folded laundry.

Now, here's one for you: I should be spending time working on my Critique Partners' things. More and more often, I find time spent critiquing edging out my own writing time. Help! Destroy that excuse, please!

You are a superstar and an inspiration. Obviously.

  12. The CP issue is tricky, but you aren't any good to them if your craft falters. In my own CP relationships. communication is key. If one has something new they're still fiddling with and I have a deadline. Guess what's a priority? If one is stuck in a trouble spot and we're just drafting, it's no problem to read and jump on the phone. If you're hard-pressed for time, I suggest read/phone call instead of notes. If you need to give line notes, they'll go faster if you print it out. Mostly there's no right way to be a CP and those relationships are ever-changing.

But my kick-in-butt answer is Prioritize.

  13. I was going to say "thank you" yesterday, but I figured you would tell me to quit procrastinating and write. So I did. ;)

I have never tried phone calls. Too shy, seriously. I need to work on that.

  14. Thank you Gennifer for changing the comment format - and thank you for giving me the kick in the butt via e-mail when I couldn't make this work!

I needed a kick in the butt and will be buckling down very, very soon...
